I cannot say that I will have anything of great interest written here...but it will mainly be a place to journal a bit of my life. I know, BORING! ha!
Well, as of late, we haven't had too much boredom. I'd like to have some soon...
On March 31st we had a house fire. It was started by our FORD van starting itself on fire inside our garage. Pete was home for lunch, and I was at work. He saw the smoke in the garage and tried so hard to get the van OUT. But it wouldn't go into gear or start up...neighbors stopped to help while they were waiting for the firemen. A neighbor lady came to the library and told me my house was on fire, and she thought it was gone. For a few moments I thought she had literally lost her mind, as I couldn't even begin to imagine such a thing...then I asked everyone if I was dreaming, because my concious brain sort of turned off. weird.
Let me just say, it was a horrible day. The next two weeks were pretty bad. Then, we sort of realized there was nothing we could do except deal with things as they came.
We only lived there for 3 months. We waited, saved, and sweated over this house. We painted the whole thing ourselves and did a wonderful job I must say! And when we moved in, I declared that I would never build again, or move again...this was it!
Now,we've moved 3 times in 5 weeks, had to get used to 5 different beds, and deal with insurance every day. Most of our stuff is in storage, or thrown away. It's non-stop-crazy! It's been very sad. Supposedly they are going to start rebuilding soon, but we have yet to see evidence of that!
Have I learned anything from this event? I have learned that people care about us. So, I suppose that's pretty important. People in Cardston are fabulous...specifically 3rd ward...amazing!!! Okay, I admit it...I've learned other lessons...specifically service. I will think a lot harder and act faster when I hear of someone in need... I AM grateful that we're all alive.
And everything will work out...it's just a real pain for now.
We feel badly about our piece of wood with our kids' heights on it...it burned. I feel terrible about all my woodcrafts that burned. I wasn't using them in my house, but I spent a lot of time making them...and had TONS of them...especially Christmas things. All my big Santas...ahhhh...well, perhaps I'll make those again.
There IS a bit of a plus side. The things we replace are nicer, and I have a chance to redeem myself on my flooring selection. Still, I'm not sure it's worth it...
Anyhow, it's been a pretty wild couple of months. School ending brings a lot of events too...so I will post some pics of those.
Mainly I just hope this blog works...it seems so easy, that it's bound to be hard!
